                                            The Geography and Climate of Ukraine

Ukraine is situated in the eastern part of Europe. Its area is 603,700 sq km and it is the second largest
country in Europe. Ukraine borders on Russia, Bilorus, Moldova, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and
Romania. There are 24 administrative regions and the Crimean Autonomous Republic in Ukraine. The population of Ukraine about is 47 mln people.

The capital is Kyiv. The biggest cities are Odesa, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Poltava and others. On the south it is washed by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. The major part of Ukraine is flat and only 5% of the whole territory is mountainous. The two mountainous areas in Ukraine are the Carpathian and the Crimean Mountains.The main rivers are the Dniper, the Dnister, the Bug, and the Donets. the Ukrainian lakes are Synevyr,Svitiaz,Syvash,Yalpuh and so on.

The climate of Ukraine is determined by its geographical positions. It is mild and soft in the west and in the centre, warm and dry in the east and hot in the south. Winter is not very strong.The coldest month is January. But the weather changes very often in winter. Sometimes it rains and sometimes it‘s very cold and frosty. Summer is usually hot. The hottest month is July when temperature sometimes rises above 40 degrees.
